About Bastion Gateway

We're a new filing agent. We deal with Companies House and HMRC on behalf of the companies that authorise us, so their directors don't have to learn either system.

Why we exist

Every UK company has to file a confirmation statement every year, and — since HMRC closed its own free Corporation Tax service on 31 March 2026 — every company now needs commercial software to file a Corporation Tax return too. Most directors would rather not learn the detail of either. We do it for them.

We built our own filing software rather than reselling someone else's, because the parts that matter most to us — checking figures against the actual published rules, and never sending anything until a person has approved it — needed to be built in from the start, not bolted on.

What we are, plainly

  • We're a filing agent. That means a company authorises us to deal with Companies House and HMRC on its behalf — it's a permission, not a qualification.
  • We're not chartered accountants, and we don't call ourselves that. "Accountant" isn't a protected title in UK law, but the ones that are — chartered, certified — belong to firms who hold them, not to us.
  • We're not yet recognised by HMRC to file Corporation Tax returns. We're working towards it. Confirmation statements go to Companies House and don't need that recognition, which is why we can file those today.
  • We don't give tax advice. Where a figure needs a judgement call — what's allowable, what something counts as — that's a decision for you or your adviser, and we'll flag it rather than decide it for you.
